You
are allowed to work part-time if you have "Permission
to Engage in an Activity Other Than That Permitted by
the Status of Residence Previously Granted". Keep
in mind, however, that your primary purpose is to study
Japanese and good jobs are not available for people
speaking no Japanese. We recommend that you start working
when you get used to your life in Japan and your studies
at school. If you are attending a short-time program,
you are not allowed to work in Japan.

(2) Type of Job
You are not allowed to work in the entertainment industry,
pachinko parlors, or bars. For example, you are not
allowed to act as a tout or cleaner for pachinko parlors.
Contravention of this rule could result in your removal
from Japan, so it is important to be careful when choosing
a job.
